Mandrake logging into graphical interface

Im a newbie, I have a problem loggin in from a console to graphical interface. I have a dualboot, xp and linux, after running linux, I get into the console.

After logging in into my account, I simply cannot log into graphical interface, any I tried, doesnt work. It reports some server error or something.
"startx" nor "kde" do not seem to work/

What to do:confused:

I am no expert (in fact I am a complete noob) but I had similar problems with the GUI not starting and looked around for some help... what worked for me was simply typing 'startx' in the console, however it might not work for you since you say you are having server errors (you should post exact message, even if I can't help in that area someone here most likely can but would need the specifics ;))

when you are at the command prompt, try typing init 5, that should cause it to reboot in graphical multi-user mode.

init 5 doesnt work for me. Could it possibly be that I cant enter graphical interface because of my graphic card/monitor settings? Cuz I noticed while I was installing the graphic card, the same error occured when testing it. I removed the linux and installed it again, now I tried with different graphic card/monitor settings and I still cant log in. But what I figured out, is that I think I was right, it has to do something with my graphic card. But the problem is I have Toshiba Satellite notebook, and my graphic card is Intel 82852/82855 (64MB), and its not listed. So...what should I do now?

Ok, no problem now, i figured it out. In the end it was a graphic card problem. Fixed now, thanks anyways.
