mandrake is trying to mount cdroms that dont exist
I have corrected the errors by adding append hdclun=0 to my /boot/grub/menu.lst file, in each menu item that has to do with linux as described by mandrake and i dont see any errors anymore when i do a "dmesg |less" but i still see an error that the system is trying to mount cdrom3, cdrom4, cdrom5, cdrom6. How can i deal with this problem and not have it try to mount cdroms that dont exist. I umounted and rm'd all the cdrom directorys that dont exist before i found i needed to add that append line to the config file.... cdrom3 - 6 .... I do have 2 cdrw's ... a optorite 52x32x52 and a memorex 2x2x8 ... both function fine.. i needed the old emeorex for burning 2x cdrw disks i still have... i bought 50 cd spools for 5$ each a while ago and still have about 100 cdrw's or so. Anyway any help is greatly appreciated.

Could it have something to do with supermount? Are you using supermount? Check your /etc/fstab.

I hope someone answers this because I've noticed the same thing in Mandrake 9.1. "Attempting to mount cdromX" or something like that, repeated from 30 to 60 times every minute or so, on and on and on....

/dev/hda5 / ext3 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
/dev/hda7 /home ext3 defaults 1 2
none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=udf:iso9660,ro,--,user,iocharset=iso8859-1 0 0
none /mnt/cdrom2 supermount dev=/dev/hdd,fs=udf:iso9660,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1 0 0
none /mnt/cdrom3 supermount dev=/dev/scd2,fs=udf:iso9660,ro,--,user,iocharset=iso8859-1 0 0
none /mnt/cdrom4 supermount dev=/dev/scd3,fs=udf:iso9660,ro,--,user,iocharset=iso8859-1 0 0
none /mnt/cdrom5 supermount dev=/dev/scd4,fs=udf:iso9660,ro,--,user,iocharset=iso8859-1 0 0
none /mnt/cdrom6 supermount dev=/dev/scd5,fs=udf:iso9660,ro,--,user,iocharset=iso8859-1 0 0
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows ntfs umask=0,ro,iocharset=iso8859-1 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hda6 swap swap defaults 0 0

this is my fstab file so i guess i am using supermount but i only have scd0 and hdd for cdroms, they both are writers and both are working fine... so i should only have cdrom and cdrom2 not cdrom3 - cdrom6.
I am not having that problem you are having but it still is aggrivating the crap outta me.. please help

Uh, so did you try deleting the cdrom3-6 entries in fstab? I think harddrake made those before you added the kernel param.

I guess that would have been the smart thing to do. I am newbie and wasnt sure if that was just a log file or a config file. I did do it and now all is good. Thanks for the help

Here's a little hint for when you're not sure if you should delete/remove an entry in a file:
Place a # in front of the line(s) in question. Then save your changes. It will make that line invisible to the system, so it's like removing it. Only, if you find that having the line out makes things worse, you can go back and simply remove the # (save your changes again) and the line will be back as it was before.
