Mandrake "control panel" disappeared
 

Dear visitors.

I am enjoying my copy of Mandrake, however there are certain things that just don't work


For instance, I love using the original KDE Menu editor, since I can assign keyboard shortcuts to programs in the KDE Menu

Therefore (since "Drake Menu Editor" doesn't has that feature) I uninstalled Menudrak 0.7.4-2mdk. After I successfully uninstalled that package, I tried editing my KDE menu and it didn't worked

What I did noticed is that the nice "Mandrake Control Panel" (whatever it's called) disappeared.

I installed Menudrak 0.7.4-2mdk again, and I can't see the control panel anywere (used to be below the Configure Your Desktop item, in the Configuration category of the KDE Menu

Any suggestions??

The Mandrake Control Panel is a fancy title for 'drakconf', try running that as root and seeing what happens. It may not be uninstalled, your menus may have just gotten screwed up, in which case blendmaster's right.
However, if it did uninstall what may have happened is this: when you uninstall a dependancy of something, everything else along the whole dependancy chain uninstalls. And Mandrake's got funny ideas of what depends on what, sometimes :-/ You could always try putting the main CD in the drive and running 'urpmi drakconf' to reinstall it.

Does anybody knows how to assign keyboard shortcuts to the KDE Menu items?

SInce Mandrake uses it's own editor. I tried uninstalling it so that the standard KDE Menu editor will allow me to use shortcuts without luck.

Hello, I'm still fairly new to Linux and Mandrake so bare with me please...

I'm running into the same problem after running the Mandrake update tool. The 'Configure Your Computer' is now removed from the menu. I was hoping it would be just a menu configuration problem but running drakconf from the console just returns "bash: drakconf: command not found". I followed the posted advise and tried "urpmi drakconf" and it returned another error;

Some package requested cannot be installed:
drakconf-10-0.7mdk.i586 (due to missing drakxtools-10-34.2.100mdk.i586)
drakxtools-10-34.2.100mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied perl-Glib[>= 1.021-3mdk]) (Y/n) y

Installing drakxtools of course didn't work (I used 'urpmi drakxtools') since perl-Glib seems to have been removed as well.

I ran 'urpmi perl' and 'urpmi perl-glib' and both returned the message 'Everything already installed'. I'm using Mandrake 10 and when I installed the updates it did say that in order to install some of them (I didn't take note of which ones) some items would have to be removed (I wish I took a note of which ones). I just went ahead with it because I figured installing security updates and patches would probably be important, I didn't really know what I was removing, and there were quite a few of various patches for the packages I've installed.

Any help on this will be very much appreciated! I can't find the package manager either so I've been installing RPMs using 'rpm -i' when I can, though most end up returning an error anyway...

I managed to get perl-Glib and perl-GTK installed and I've gotten farther along but ran into this installing drakconf using 'urpmi --allow-force drakconf'. drakconf loads now though!

I had the same problem, that of drakconf disappearing after install security/update patches. I also noticed xmms stopped working.

I have had this problem on two different installations. I had an error stating Error: unable to select drakconf-10-14mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied perl(detect_devices)

I installed Perl GTK(I don't know how I managed to uninstall it to be honest) and then successfully managed to install drakconf, although this didn't work on a previous installation.

I don't have drakconf in my menus on the KDE GUI, is there some way I can request a refresh of the menus?

Has anyone any ideas how this problems arises, it seems as if a fresh installation is more stable than the updated version.

Running 'mcc' will load it or 'update-menus -v' from the colsole to get the icon back.
