Unhappy mandrake cd doesnt even load on nforce2 mobo...framebuffer problem?

ok...i've tried like every distro out there and none of them like framebuffers im guessing...i always get an error of "you passed an undefined mode number" and im forced to use 80x60 console resolution

but anyways, im trying to install mandrake and the splash screen that says press f1 or enter is not even showing up!! i tested out the cd on 3 other machines and it worked perfectly. i have a asus a7n8x deluxe pcb rev 1.06 mobo with a geforce4 mx 440 agp 8x card. i dont understand what the heck is goin on with this machine

What sort of monitor are you using? I had problems with my TFT monitor in that some Linux distributions I've tried wouldn't let me install in graphical mode although I'm guessing it's an outside chance of it being your monitor...

A quick search and I found this. I get the impression the a7n8x deluxe motherboard should be working (I'm using a non-deluxe version in my computer - works fine ).

There's some info on this site (here) that may be interesting. Sorry I can't be much more helpful.

im using a regular crt monitor...i got mandrake to boot by using the second cd (very weird) and it seems to work besides the installer locking up! it was probably close to needing disc 2 but wateva. i think i saw other posts with this problem so i wont ask here. either way, no other distro (slackware, gentoo) works with this dum mobo but i will try and try and try until i get it

thanx for all your help cb_linus...VERY much appreciated

Smile No F1 / install screen?

I experienced a similar problem - using CE download iso images... CD1 worked off a friends machine but not on mine. However I came across MDK errata - stating boot from CD2 and this worked fine.

Good Luck!
