HI!, I dont know the kernel for Mandrake, but, i see this distribution... and comes with the 2.6 kernel:

A new beta release of Turbolinux has been announced. Turbolinux 9 Workstation, code name "Suzuka" is the first Linux distribution shipping with Kernel 2.6.0 (test3) as its default Linux Kernel. This release seems like a response to a revival of interest in desktop Linux in Japan with strong emphasis on Windows-like look and feel and interoperability with other Microsoft applications (the boxed product will ship with Sun's StarSuite) as well as seemless integration of the product into mixed OS network environments. If you can read Japanese, the release announcement has further details. The beta release is available for free download, but as with all recent Turbolinux releases, registration (name and email address) is required. The interest is high, so expect the downloads of the two ISO images of 648MB and 444MB respectively to be painfully slow. The final release of Turbolinux 9 Workstation is expected to ship in October.

Mandrake does release new kernel versions as if 9.2 doesn't ship with it, if you wait a month and run "urpmi kernel" it'll get a newer version. Mandrake does ship distro's with release candidate kernels, so 9.2 may well come with 2.6, but I don't really know...

I hear there is a new 2.6 kernel with Mdk9.2, but it isnt default for obvious reasons-still a test kernel, not suited for everyday use.

It's not hard to just download the latest release from, if you want a 2.6 kernel you should know what you're doing enough to download and compile a new kernel.

The 2.6testing series is available to be installed (along with some required tools) when using the recent 9.2 betas if you grab it from a contrib source. I've used it a bit, it seems to be fairly stable once you get it up and running, but when I last tried (2 or 3 weeks ago), there were still problems with brief freezes, and really slow responses at times. I didn't mess around with it too much though, so I can't say much more than that. But anyone who is interested should be able to (fairly) easily get their hands dirty with the 2.6 line of kernels.
