Mandrake 9.2 Restarting computer
 

If a click on the Restart button on the login screen for 9.2 the machine restarts but without going through any of the tidy shutdown processes so on restart it has to go through all the integritity checks.

How can I force it to restart it cleanly. The Shutdown button on the logon screen works as expected i.e. dropping through the various shutdown processes.

I am not sure what the problem is. One thing that you can check is what command is the login screen issueing when you click on Restart.

Log in as root and run kcontrol (Control Center). Click on System Administration -> Login Manager -> Sessions. Under Commands the Reboot command should be /sbin/reboot.

I'm using gnome. Swapped over to using kde and it reboots fine from the logon display. I'm a newbie so haven't as yet settled with either kde or gnome.

The problem would therefore appear to a gnome problem, does it's logon manager also use /sbin/reboot?

Yes. I am in KDE now so I can't look through the gnome control tables to find out where gnome specifies what command to use.

Another way to reboot from gnome is to issue /sbin/reboot from a shell command line. You may have to su first.

Can't find anything remotely similar in gnome. The /sbin/reboot has the desired effect from the command line.

Unless anybody else has an ides as to what the problem is I will put this issue on the back burner until I migrate to a new machine.
