It should not be all that hard
There is an "install" text file that comes with the kernel when you download it. It has instructions on what to type in. There is also a good guide to upgrading the kernel in Mandrake that is in the documentation. They both suggest slightly different ways of doing it. However, make sure you back up your old system and your data. Something like what I posted below may happen to you.
