Mandrake 9.2 installation program crashes in the final step of the installation
 

I am a complete beginner.

I tried to install Mandrake 9.2 from a CDROM set coming together with an italian magazine (LINUX PRATICO) and it all seems to work up to the point where I am asked to configure the system. When I click on "configure graphyc interface" the system completely crashes (it doesn't react even to Ctrl+Alt+Canc). I tried to finish the installation program without configuring the graphic interface, but the result, in the final step, is the same.

A bad omen that occurred during installation was that I was not able to create a boot floppy disk (message: mkbootdisk failed). I don't know if the two things are related somehow.

Please give me some hint of how I could turn around the problem. I am in total darkness, so even wild brainstorming is better than nothing.
