mandrake 9.2 bugs problems fixes solutions updates plugins plug-ins plug
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

going to uninstall windows xp pro and use mandrake linux 9.2. after reading several pages of posts after doing searches on bugs, i decided to create this thread to deal with all 9.2 problems for myself, and so that anyone else wanting to try mandrake 9.2 can find all bug fixes in one place!

if you want to install updates during the install, you must download this file and copy it onto a ms-dos floppy disk. this disk needs to be inserted after hitting "F1" when the cd booting process prompts you to apply patches or continue. http://www.mandrakelinux.com/patches...ubkey/patch.pl

are all the "bugs" that all mandrake related posts make references to, fixed and completely resolved in the update menu?

is it necessary to run the following?
$ su
[login to root]
$ urpmi.update -a

is the kde menu bug resolved in the auto updates, or is it necessary to run the following?
$ update-menus -v

is rpmdrake included in the 9,2 install, or is it necessary to run the following?
$ su
[login to root]
$ urpmi rpmdrake

does the update menu in mandrake 9.2 also update all the software along with security issues, like gaim, kopete, openoffice, and media players, or do those need to be done manually?

please contribute any issues along with the fix and i will try and keep editing and updating this first post as answers come in! thanks in advance!

yes
there is a fix for the menu problems in the mandrake updates

rpmdrake installs in normal install (as far as I am aware)

I have everything I need in the way of extra apps saved on cd and so don't bother with urpmi sources

have just changed to mdk10
it's WAY better than 9.2
(though some folks are having nightmares with it judging by some of the posts i've seen)
