Mandrake 9.2 and Com21 USB cable modem

I just installed Mandrake 9.2 on a machine that uses a Com21 cable modem model DP1110 for internet access. As far as I can tell everything is configured correctly. At least eth1 (eth0 is a network card) starts up and seems to get an IP address from DHCP during boot. However, if I try to ping google.com I get a host not found error. Things work correctly if I use Knoppix. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Type in ping an ip number not dns, eg 62.3.99.219, if this works then your dns has not been setup. You might have to reboot to load it with dhcp - initial connections even with Man 10 do not pick up the dns entries unless you reboot.

Otherwise you will have to enter the dns entries yourself if you cannot get the dhcp to work.

Check ifconfig and route as root to ensure the lower layer is connecting.

When I pinged an IP, I got a permission denied message. I turned of Shorewall, and everything works now.
