Mandrake 9.2 and C-Media 8738
Ok, I recently installed MDK 9.2 over 9.1. From 8.2 to 9.1 sound has worked beautifully with no configurations necessary on my part. Now, with a recent install of 9.2, I have no sound.
I'm a newbie, so I'm not quite sure what to do. harddrake appears to have correctly identified and installed the sound card (using snd-cmipci as recommended on ALSA website). I've also checked aumix to make sure that nothing is muted and it isn't. I raised the sound levels to 100 and still i get no sound. I have nothing plugged in that would interfere with the sound (ex mic, camera etc...). However, if I do plug the mic in that is attached to my monitor, I get a loud, flat, tone. I do have a winmodem (occassionally used in windows) that has onboard sound (riptide audio) that is detected by mandrake but has no drivers installed for it. Let me know if I need to post info from a file. Any help would be appreciated. :) |
Change module to cmpci, snd-cmpci don't seem to work. You should rockin' away with cmpci :)

Using harddrake I changed the it from snd-cmipci to cmipci but the sound still does not work. The module still lists snd-cmipci, ever after a reboot, in the information window. However when I click on the "run configuration tool" it says cmipci.
Here are the contents of the module.conf file. alias eth0 8139too alias sound-slot-0 cmpci probeall scsi_hostadapter ide-scsi above snd-cmipci snd-pcm-oss probeall usb-interface usb-uhci Should I change the "above snd-cmipci snd-pcm-oss" to "above cmipci snd-pcm-oss" Last time i edited the file I made a big mess. :) |
I seem to have similar modules.conf what comes to sound and it works great. Can't really say what is wrong with yours.

Well I finally got it to work. :-)
