Arrow Mandrake 9.2 3D acceleration

just curious if anyone with an older ATI card has gotten 3D acceleration working in Mandrake 9.2. i have an ATI 3D Rage Pro AGP 2X that i would like to get 3d accel working for. i'm trying to follow these directions:

http://www.retinalburn.net/linux/dri_HOWTO.html

i was just curious if anyone at all has got it working for one of the cards that ATI doesn't offer on their site (anything older than Radeon 8500), how difficult it was to get it working, how well it works, as well as some general steps that need to be taken to get it working.

i realize they are "supported," i am just trying to get 3D acceleration enabled. my question was whether or not anyone has had any success getting 3D acceleration working in Mandrake 9.2 with an older ATI card, one for which the drivers aren't provided on the ATI website. i know it's possible, i was just curious if anyone had succeeded or not and what steps they took to get it working.

This is the very reason I sold all my old Ati card to People using M$Windows. Poor support from ATI. If you buy their latest over priced card's you'll get 3d acceleration. What I sold them for (A being used Price) I was able to just add $10.00 and got Nvidia cards. Now all my 3d games work without any problems. I do have one left, it's in my server ya a great place for a $85.00 Ati 7500Radeon I bought within the last 6Months.

yeah one of my friends has just started messin with linux and he got 3D acceleration working for his nVidia Geforce 4 workin in no time under Mandrake 9.2, while i'm still tinkering with my old ati, although it's not such a big deal for me. i don't really need 3d accel, although it'd be real nice. i'm just tryin to learn some stuff.

Normally 3d is supported for most older cards in the kernel or in Xfree.

Have you looked around on the GATOS project website? They have some great stuff there for older ATI cards.

Yep and none them apply for my Ati7500 or were in process. So what do I do in the mean time? Tell my 4yr who want to play his games he has to wait for our video card to be support or buy one NOW that is.

Yep. But I wouldn't worry too much about the 4yr old. They are so resilient that if you can get them to roll up into a ball, you can dribble them down court. <G>

Or maybe someone with a 7500 will reply with a tip that works. Sorry that the GATOS project files didn't help. There is a set of instructions there that tell you what section(s) need to be added to your XF86Config-4 file in order to enable 3D acceleration - and other stuff, all the way to suggestions on which things need to be enabled in your kernel. I didn't think that this stuff specifically excluded the 7500 card, but I assume you have tried all of that and none of it worked, right?

Maybe it would be helpful if you pasted a copy of the contents of that file into a reply here, along with whatever changes you have tried in order to get it working but they didn't work.

Like I said earlier I sold them all but the one I put into my server about 5 months ago. So my xfconfig files are set up for Nvidia now and I didnt have to jump thru hoops to get the Nvidia card working like I would of if I kept the ATI's.
