Mandrake 9.1 taking forever to boot

Recently, my system has been taking forever to boot. Everything seems to boot fast until it gets to the point where I should get the login screen. At that point I have to wait almost five minutes for the box with the users to appear so that I can login.

As I stated, this is a recent problem. I have been running mdk 9.1 on this system for about 3 months and just started having this problem a couple of days ago. And I am not running this on a slow either (AMD XP 2500, 512MB PC3500, GeForce FX 5600).

Anyone ever experienced this problem or have an idea of how to fix it?

Keep looking at the XFree86 and /var/log/messages while the system is in that state log to see if there are any clues.

I'll take a look when I get home tonight and see if there is anything obvious in the log.

Actually, it seemed to stop doing it yesterday. I rebooted several times and the login screen came up quickly.

Of course, I screwed up when editing my X86config file earlier today and had to reinstall, so I will be on the look out for the problem to appear again.

But if you happen to remember I would definitely be interested in hearing what the problem was.

This sounds like a problem that happened to me when i set a new hostname with linuxconf. My system slowed down when starting programs. So misconfigured networking seems to do it. Putting the host name back the way i found it fixed everything.

This belongs in a bug report somwhere methinks!

YES, this already happened to me!

Take me a while to figure out what was the problem...
The prob is in the floppy drive
this begins happening after i install Crossover Office, i cant figure why this happens after CXoffice install but reallu happens this way.

So you have to go to the Mandrake Control Center , then go to the Hardware tab and mount points, then u have to disable the supermount option for the floppy drive.

Then starts booting ok, after a while i puted again the supermount option for the floppy drive and the boot continued ok, but dont ask me why, cause i dont know how to explain, im not an expert
