Mandrake 9.1 imac(g3) clock trouble

I've had MAndrake 9.1 installed on my imac for ony a couple of days now and I'm having a lot of real problems. When I set the date and time, though, when I hit the "ok" button, the clock resets itself to 4:00 Dec 31 1969(!?) Now, this is far from the most devestating trouble I've had, but it is the most annoying. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I forgot to mention my time-zone setting is correct. Thanks again.

Dammit! I just found out the hard way that the clock reset means the ./configure command won't work. This is the error I got using ./configure. Godammit. Please help!

"checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr//bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... configure: error: newly created file is older than distributed files!
Check your system clock"
