Mandrake 10 Soundblaster issues

I recently decided to give Linux another try on my computer, but I am still having some problems as I cannot seem to get the sound to work correctly. I am on a Gateway with a Soundblaster LIve Value. Part of the problem I think is just that the sound card is a cheap OEM card that they just threw in. The thing is, is that I can get sound to come out from my aux speakers, which are just a $10 set I got at Best Buy, while I cant get sound to come out of my digital Boston Acoustics speakers. I remember awhile back when I was messing around with Mandrake 9.1, I was able to get all my speakers to work by messing around in the mixer. The thing is, is that I have tried the same thing in 10 and I cant get them to work.

I was able to get them to work in Suse 9, just by adjusting the wave center volume in Yast. However, when I mess with that volume in Kmix in Mandrake 10, nothing happens. I think that it may be muted, but there doesnt seem to be a way to unmute it like most of the other volume sliders.

Can anyone help?

kmix

Try this: run kmix at the console and when the window pops up disable "IEC958 Optical Raw". I had the same problem and this fixed it. Good luck!

Send output of dmesg, your sound card is maybe not detected at all.

Is something showing in MDK control center ?

install the alsa packages http://www.alsa-project.org I know that soundcard you listed is supported. Read the documentation and install the driver, libs, and utils.

After all packages are installed, run alsamixer in the terminal. Then unmute the volume by pressing the letter 'm'. Try this, if it doesn't work, post here and I will check the post tomorrow and reply.
