I don't think it matters too much. 10.1 has the avilability of KDE 3.3 i think. I just installed 10.0 from a set of CDs I downloaded a while ago (not realizing 10.1 was out) and it installed fine on my newer notebook (P4 2.4GHz 512 RAM, etc) I then tried to change my sources to all the 10.1 repos and did a full rpm upgrade.. and it didn't work too well.. nothing too major, just a few little bugs I didn'ty want to take the time to fix... I am finishing downloaded the full ISOs for 10.1 right now, and will be installing it later tonight (gotta go get a new pack of CD-Rs)... I think you'll be fine with either.. but of course, going with the newest release will ensure the longest support.
No, not really. i find that 10.1 is an advanced bug fix. The new kde 3.3.x is an option in 10.1 too, which i find beneficial for desktop use. For CD burning, i suggest either a 2.6.7 or 2.6.9 kernel (ie 10.0 for 2.6.7 or update 10.1), although the 2.6.8.1-12mdk has not been too bad. If you have an ATI card, check the driver works with the mdk 10.1 kernel you are going to use, i seem to remember some issues.
file manager has been upgraded a bit
eg File>open> and the file file browser that opens has a bar of common places on the left
a godsend.
nothing much else
Nothing changed any for 3d gaming etc you still need to get the 3d drivers.
If you already have Mandrake 10.0 just stick with that and save the trouble of downloading 10.1
otherwise its worth d/l ing 10.1 just for the included security upgrades. (available from MandrakeUpdate anyways)
