Mandrake 10 Official - update problems

Since I've installed Mandrake 10.0 Official, I've been unable to update. MandrakeUpdate seems to connect to the FTP mirror fine, and brings up a list of upgrade packages, but it won't let me select any of them for mysteries version compatibility reasons. A couple of examples:

-----
Sorry, the following package(s) can't be selected:

kdelibs-common-3.2-26.2.100mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1)
-----
Sorry, the following package(s) can't be selected:

qt3-common-3.2.3-19.1.100mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied rpmlib(VersionedDependencies) <= 3.0.3-1)
-----

Those don't seem to be conflicts with specific rpm packages, as far as I can tell... Any ideas?

i would suggest using urpmi to update your system. i use both fedora and mandrake and have given up on updating using GUI on both. in terminal type man urpmi for more information. if you are still having dependency problems try here http://urpmi.org/easyurpmi/index.php

What about urpmi --auto kdelibs-common qt3-common? That option should force urpmi to install any needed dependancies, but that rpmlib(???) stuff seems pretty weird.

that gives me:

=====
Some package requested cannot be installed:
kdelibs-common-3.2-36.2.100mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1)
qt3-common-3.2.3-19.1.100mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied rpmlib(VersionedDependencies) <= 3.0.3-1)
=====

Looks like it's still the same weird problem...

Hmm, perhaps your RPM database has become corrupt? You could try
Code:
rpm --rebuilddb
to rebuild it (I've never actually tried this command)

i had this problem initially after upgrading from 9.2 to 10.0. not the exact same packages you're talking about, but other KDE packages that wouldn't install from the update source due to similar dependency issues. what i did was, i went to MCC->remove software & did a search for KDE. i found quite a few legacy 3.1.X versions of various KDE apps & libs. nothing system critical, mind you, that would hose KDE if removed. i removed (uninstalled) all KDE 3.1.X apps, then tried the updates again & they all worked. so, i'd suggest looking to see if you have any older KDE 3.1.X stuff still installed & uninstalling it, then try your updates. in theory, the upgrade should have taken care of this, but i think it didn't due to the missing MDK disk 4. that contains a bunch of KDE stuff on it. also, after you're done with updates, set yourself up with a "main" source from EasyURPMI , go to MCC->install software & type KDE in the search. you may be surprised at all the things that aren't installed with the 3 CD download set. the main source contains all the missing disk 4 stuff.
