Mandrake 10 - No GUI

so i upgraded to mandrake 10 (including CD4) but now my GUI doesn't work. the only problem i had installing was that on CD4 i was told that for some reason some of the lib-KDE stuff didn't install. is that why it doesn't work?

I just recently upgraded to mandrake 10 via urpmi, and I had a similar problem. I'm rather new to mandrake, so my solution might not be the best one, but it worked for me. I urpmi'd once, it said finished but couldn't install a bunch of crap because of one error or another, so I restarted, thinking that it might help update the currently installed packages, or something. Anyhow, I got kicked right back outta kde, straight to the command prompt.

So, I decided, what the hell, i'll try and urpmi again from here. It downloaded and installed some more stuff. I restarted again, that time it let me into KDE. Urpmi'd again, installed more, restarted. Rinse and repeat several times more, eventually it got to where I had one package that wouldn't install (kdeedu) . I didn't even select that one to upgrade, but hey, why not? So, I removed the old one manually, and installed the new one manually, and then when I tried to urpmi to finish it off, I was greeted with the lil message that said something along the lines of everything is installed. Go me! :-D

Hope this helps..

Before you go and reinstall, try looking inside /etc/inittab and seeing what the default runlevel is. I did something like that not too long ago, but accidentally accepting a "new" config file instead of keeping my old one, and the lines were different for some reason. Oops! down to init3! See if the default runlevel is actually 5. If not make it so.
