Question Mandrake 10 Menu Query

Hi,

When Mandrake boots up, I am presented with several menu options e.g. Linux, Secure-Linux,etc. I am wanting to query what the differences are and why is that when I select to boot secure-linux it does not accept any login details including root.

Those are different kernels you can boot. Secure Linux (SELinux) is a security-enhanced version of the kernel. Pretty funny that you can't log in to it.

The one on the top of the list is probably the ideal one for your system.

WMD,

Thanks. How is SELinux different from the normal-kernel? I was also under the impression that SELinux was still in its infancy and not available widely. Is it safe to use?

Also what did you meany by "The one on the top of the list is probably the ideal one for your system."

Can't remember, to be honest.

Kernels are configured depending on what types of hardware are in your computer. The first one listed is probably the most optimized for your setup. For example, if you have two CPUs, "linux-smp" would be first, since it uses both CPUs, and "linux" would be next.
