Mandrake 10 install help

i want to install mandrake 10 but im having problems. im new to linux so i could do with some help.

ive downloaded the 10 tree of an ftp and its on a folder on a fat32 partition on my harddrive. i have 5 partitions altogether on a Serial ATA hardrive, the first 3 are ntfs, then i have a fat32 with just the linux tree copied on, then i have a blank partiton where i was hoping to put linux

i tried making a Harddrive boot floopy to install but it keeps giving me errors, it says i need to create a menu.lst file and put it on the disk but windows wont read the disk once the image is on.

any help will be much apreciated

I'm also having trouble doing a harddrive install. So far, I think you have to create ISO files and place them in a root folder.

grekster, i am hoping that the official release will work ok. Right now i installed it on a normal ide drive. i am thinking that maybe in order to have dual boot, linux has to write a file to the windows drive, which (since it's ntfs) it might not. I should mention that since i installed 10ce i can't boot into windows but i haven't had time to try anything.

what i did before trying the ide drive was to try the install, and as soon as it froze i booted again from the cd and chose expert install and then recovery(i think that's what it was). I think this would have worked except:
1. the install now skiped over the password settup so i didn't know what to use to log in to linux
2. I still could not boot to windows

what i had to do was use the win xp cd and use fixmbr.
