Mandrake 10 - CDROM not working
 
i finally upgraded Mandrake 9 to Mandrake 10 but now, to my horror, i find that it doesn't do anything when i put a CD in the drive. and XMMS doesn't work. please help!!

I assume that you mean cds won't play sounds. You'll need that little cable from your soundcard to your cdrom drive attached. It doesn't seem to do digital out right now (I think its a 2.6 kernel thing). The good news is that your music will take A LOT fewer cpu cycles. Does XMMS just crash? See what output plugin is enabled. I bet its OSS, which has no business there at all. If using KDE, you can select aRTs output, but my favorite is to quickly install the ALSA plugin and run with that - then it doesn't matter what windowmanager you use, it'll work. Good luck.
