Yes, I'm a newbie. I just installed Mandrake 10 and can't print to my USB Lexmark Z45 printer. CUPS sees it and I've set it up with the Z43 printer driver, but can't print a test page or anything else. My USB ports work with other USB devices, and the same printer works fine from a WinXP system. Any help is appreciated.
I failed to mention: I don't get any kind of error when I attempt to print from any program, and CUPS reports that it successfuly printed, but the printer never makes a sound.

Well, you know what I mean! No printing noises, no lights, like it's not receiving any data, which I assume is the case since it's not printing. Where is CUPS sending the data? This printer works fine under WinXP.
lewisdw; the plot thickens. then http://tldp.org/HOWTO/HARDWARE-HOWTO
/index.html printers compatiblity,supported/nonsupported. if it is then it should work u will have to go to the section on howto for lexmark.

You need to download the proper proprietary driver from the lexmark website. I have 2 lexmark printers and they work fine in linux. You need the driver for the z45 not the z43.
