Mandrake 10 Boot menu
Ok, there is the problem, everytime I try to boot on "failsafe" mode, it kill all the process well, including dm, but, when the system restart, I got a graphical interface, I don't think that's normal, I also got this error when I use "init 1, 2, 3 etc...." command.
I can't see why :S please help me!
thank you!!!
Alex

Not quite sure what your problem is?
But it sound's like graphic interface is the default for booting the "failsafe" option.
Personally I don't use that - I can't even say for certain that I know what it's for.
Then if you've been doing stuff in command line/or with the init 3 log in and you reboot to find a graphic interface, then it's got to be one of your config settings - mandrake would almost certainly have that set as a default i.e. if you want it different, you'd have to turn it off.
Don't ask me how though, I do as much as possible with a GUI!
regards
John

The default init level is 5 on Mandrake so after rebooting your pc will always display the graphical login. If you press CTRL+ALT+F1 and login as root, does the graphical display re-start after you type 'init1' or 'init 3', or is only after a reboot after those commands.
If you really want to have your pc start without starting the dm service, as root edit the /etc/inittab file and change the line
Code:
id:5:initdefault:
to read
id:3:initdefault:
To get a graphical desktop you then need to login as a user and run 'startx'

after I type "init1", the system reboot, and load the GUI, I double check in the "rc1.d" directory, and there is no command that load the GUI (someting like Sxxdm) But there is a "K09dm", so I really can't see what it could me.
Thank you
Alex
