Mandrake 10 & eth0
Hi there:
My problem is that I installed Mandrake Linux 10.1 Official on my PC, and when I boot Mandrake refuses to load up eth0, which, even with my little Linux experience, I know is my ethernet card. Could anyone help me on this?
My system specs are:
Via KT400
AMD Athlon XP 2400+ Thoroughbred
512MB P2700 DDR
nVidia MX4000 128MB
Integrated Sound and Network card
From reading other forum posts that were only a little similar to this one, I know it's something to do with my VIA mb.
Thanks. Your help is appreciated.
And yes, I do know how to use the search button.
Edit: Ohhh! eth0 = ethernet. Thanks Lakota.

I am not sure I understand your question, but I'll take a stab at what I think you are asking.
When you watch the machine boot in verbose (watching text), you see eth 0 [failed]
I use a couple mandrake machines, and they all say that. On my machines eth 0 is the ethernet card my cable modem is connected to. When I am fully booted, my cable connection is up and working, I'm chatting to you on it now, and it failed at boot. I did have one configuration in 10.0 that never failed, due to fooling with something (did not remember what ) I think I had to edit something to allow more time for eth 0 before it timed out. It was not worth remembering and fixing because it was something like it was trying to communicate with dhcp and not enough time was alotted, but was fully configured by the time my desktop appeared.
Bottom line is, if your internet connection is on ethernet 0 and it works, don't worry about it. If eth 0 is connected to a home network, and it really does not connect by the time you are using your desktop, you will be waiting to hear from someone with more experience than me.

Have you configured your card in the MCC?
If so open a root console and type
ifup eth0
If it's correctly configured your link will come up and you'll have internet connectivity.
