Mandrake 10.1 shutdown issues.

Hello there!

I'm a newb, I only know the basics and to get done what I want done so bare with me plz :P.
I just installed Mandrake 10.1 on a old Toshiba Satelite4100XDVD because I had great success in setting it up on an older computer the last 6 months. everytihng works great for me up to this point, I was able to plow thru a few problems i was having, but now i have an issue shutting the laptop down.
Basically when I shut it down everything goes ok, then it gives me a message that says "Power Down" after it's shut down the drives and everything else, then i have to hold down the power button to turn it off. I have no problem doing that, the problem comes up when i actually shut it down. The laptop goes into standby (built into the laptop itself) and I have to turn it back on and right away turn it back off. The bios has the standby disabled and it still does the same thing. So the system just halts and doesn't shut down. Is there anything i can do to correct this? plz keep in mind i'm a noob

Thumbs up

Newb here too.

My Mandrake 10.1 acts weird regarding shutdown too. Sometimes, it actually refuses to shut down. I select the button "Turn off computer" on the shutdown menu in KDE, but then it goes back into the login menu. I try my damnedest to click the "Halt" button, but it's apparently just there for decoration.

Other times, it actually does go to shutdown. Sometimes, the computer shuts itself off, and sometimes it just says "Power Down" at the end, meaning "YOU power me down." So I hold down the button and off it goes. No problem.

sounds like you have not enabled a certain power management module

acpi & acpid and apm are the main ones

Mdk control center / system/ services is where to look...see if they are enabled on boot up and still running ....suspect they are not ....so enable reboot and test pls
