Mandrake 10.1 official and urpmi

My install went fine.Once it was done I brought up terminal and did the following commands. Now when I did new command I waited until it showed logged as root.

urpmi.addmedia plf-free ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandrake/free/10.2 with hdlist.cz
urpmi.addmedia --update updates ftp://helios.dii.utk.edu/pub/linux/M.../main_updates/ with media_info/hdlist.cz
urpmi.addmedia main http://carroll.aset.psu.edu/pub/linu...586/media/main with media_info/hdlist.cz
urpmi.addmedia contrib http://carroll.aset.psu.edu/pub/linu.../media/contrib with media_info/hdlist.cz
urpmi.addmedia jpackage ftp://ftp.caliu.info/pub/distribucio...media/jpackage with media_info/hdlist.cz
Once all was done and back to root I issued the command urpmi --auto-select Now once all this was done I went to add programs through the manager but no matter what i bring up to add software it shows on the bottom panel like loading then goes away never to have come up on the screen.I tried logging out and back in and tried rebooting but doesn't fix it.Now when setting up urpmi I never got any error messages. So can someone please tell me what I did wrong.

What program are you trying to load... I'm not sure if "rpmdrake" will show the updated urpmi sources... Try loading a program from a root term:

Example install mencoder:
# urpmi mencoder <enter>

This should either install the program or give you errors as to where to proceed...

Well I never tried to install anything.See I'm a ex fedora user and what i read with mandrake was to set up urpmi following the easyurpmi web site. After I did this I assumed I would go to the rpmdrake and the list would be endless with apps not on the 3 cd's.So once I entered what was told on the urpmi website well I went to open rpmdrake problem is it wouldn't open or even come up on my screen. So I uninstalled and reinstalled mandrake and here I am and have done nothing for urpmi. Now what I typed from the urpmi web site I assumed is right and once that is done what is the next step.Should I just go to the rpmdrake and pick my software also its on mandrake choices and should I cange that to all packages by group.See I have no idea what to do or if what i ran in the terminal was right. In the end I want to install mplayer along with other video software.I also want amsn now I went to the site but the link for the mandrake version seems to be a dead link.I want yahoo messenger and the list goes on and on. Thank you for any help you can give

Well, It can be a little tricky at first... so you went to:

http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/

Just make sure you choose the correct MDK version and Architcture...

I would suggest doing one source at a time and cut and paste the URL to your root terminal from there...

I would suggest "contrib", "main" and "plf-free" first...

Then after updating try from a root terminal:

# urpmi mplayer

You get the idea...
