Mandrake 10.1: nvidia driver & kernel source code

All,
I really like Mandrake, I had Suse first, but I like Mandrake much better. However, trying to install the nvidia driver for my laptop has turned out a little bit difficult. WHen I type uname -r
I get the kernel that I am running: 2.6.8.1-24mdksmp, when I try to install the kernel-source code I don't get anything close to this. I need the kernel source to match to the one that I running to install the nvidia driver.

My question is:
If I you joing the mandrakeclub, would I be able to get what I want? I mean get, for example, the correct kernel source code.

you should be able to use a console and type urpmi kernel-source to get it, if not go into KDE and go to the package manager and serch for the kernel source and install the one that says 2.6.8.1-24mdksmp and you should be good to go.

That's the problem. if I go to rpmdrake, I don't find the correct kernel source code. If I do urpmi kernel-source, I get a different kernel source code, a kernel source code without the smp, but I a running a pemtium 4 with HT, so the kernel sees two processors.

Have you tried installing the drivers with that source sode installed?

I think you will find it will be ok or st least when I did it I was ok with them.

noobtesting,

Thanks a lot for the tip. I just did that, I mean, I install the kernel-source code, eventhough it wasn't the same number with the kernel that I am running, but it works!
