Unhappy mandrake 10.1 ipconfig error

hi all
i downloaded mdk official 10.1 from the net ( three cds) checked the md5 sum that came out fine.
burned the images on cd . started the installation.
in the "install" section of the software...the process ran for 5 days continuously!!!!??......susequently asked for the second and third cd.....at the end...when the progress bar ,shows the process to be almost complete...it gives me a msg saying "Ipconfig error occured"...it then goes back to the step asking me the cds that i want to install......i have tried all the permutations and combinations of cds to install but it always ends with an error regarding something about "missing hdlist".......i tried running it as an update ...and a new install( without formatting the partitons) but i always get the same error........should i start from scratch all over again?/...but it will take another 5-6 days? should it actually take so long?

i am trying it to install on machine running win2000 sp4
amd 1700+
256 mb ram

i had installed andrake 8 sometime back...(single cd)...neither did it have any prob nor did it take "SOOOO" long?!!!...later... i had to format my whole harddrive so i do not have that installed any longer
thanks for any help u people can give and sorry for the loooong post

5-6 days to install? wow, I would start by verifying the cd's you burned had burned correctly, I know you said you checked the md5 sum, that will only verify the iso images, things could have gone wrong when you burned the iso's to disc.

yup, 5-6 days!!!.......the cd seems alright........i used nero to burn the image....burned it at 2x speed( slowest available)....the first cd i burned on (cd1) gave some basesystem error......i searched online for that and someone had suggested to burn on another cd. so i did that. the base system problem was thus circumvented. but this one occured.........btw how else can i be sure that the burning process was alright..if the burning s/w shows no trouble?...anything to check?
thanks

If there's an option for the burning software to verify then burn select it

With your specs I would have thought a couple of hours if that. Is there no other system that you could try the discs on to eliminate them as the problem?

You might want to check your cache settings in your bios.

hi
i changed the "system bios cacheable" and "video ram cacheable " to enabled. but to no effect.
one more thing. i have partition magic in the win 2k. it shows 3 linux partitions (two linux ext 3 and one linux swapspace) it can even read the contents of the root linux partition (/) but all the three partitions are logical. i cant find a way to change them to primary( if that is required)
thanks

The partitions can be logical. It doesn't matter to linux.

You can see some debug info during install if you press <Ctrl><Alt><Fx> (where x is 1-4)
To get back to the installation screen press <Ctrl><Alt><F7>
