mandrake 10.1 install


can i install mandrake w/ just cd1 and w/out cd 2 & cd 3? is this possible?

Theoretically it's possible but practically, it probably isn't coz packages on the the CD's maybe required for dependency resolution etc.

well what if i install it w/ cd 1 & 2?.. i had 3 cd-r's... one of them messed up cuz i burned cd 2 with 32x speed.. on the third cd-r i had, i burned it at 8x and it was fine, no error.

I don't really know what packages are on CD1 and 2, but maybe they could be good enough to do a minimal install then you can then install other packages you need from the net via urpmi.

You *can* install a basic system with just CD1. I haven't tried it, myself, though. It may just leave you at a command prompt when it's done: no gui. Then again, you may get at least a minimal gui that way. You *certainly* won't get all the bells and whistles.

For anyone who does anything less than the three-CD install, I strongly recommend visiting EasyUrpmi and setting up your repositories, so you can easily get the rest of the software you want.

mandrake 10.1 install

10.1 will install with just CD1 - I'm using it now.

GUI start OK, but a few problems with some applications.

No problems with most, including OpenOffice, browsers, etc.

Ja, just chose the minimal amount of packages possible when installing. I know for MDK 10 KDE was on disc 1 anyhow, er I think . .

thanks guys. i love linux now i thought i'd be a big n00b but im just figuring stuff out left and right.

i have it setup now so that on my wd raptor i have 10gig going to windows xp, 25gb going to mandrake 10.1 and using kanotix as a live cd for my new pc and old.

I installed it with cd1 and cd3 (cd2 gave me som weird packet error) and now i dont have a compiler. So i cant install my modem to download a compiler

i installed mandrake but one problem.. it didnt install kde nor did it configure my video card (ati x800 pro agp) or my network card. and.. it asked for my login user name/pw on a black screen and i dont know what to do next...

i installed it with cd 1 and cd 2... but i dont have cd 3.

what will happen if i edit the isos and delete stuff that i can d/l and install like open office?
