Mandrake 10.1 CE on AMD64

Is it possible to install mdk 10.1 CE on an AMD64 system? I tried it, but it wouldn't install my SATA drivers. I have mdk 10.0 AMD64 on it and wanted to do a fresh install into 10.1.

Well, what kind of sata device do you use?

I''ve got an amd64 3200+ (beefed :-D ) and a k8v deluxe mobo where my sata drives are connected to (raid1). This setup works just fine

I'm using the one on the Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro. This set up worked fine on MDK 10.0 AMD64 version (It's still installed actually...).

Hi Etrnaly,
I have Mandrake 10.1 CE running on a AMD 64 300+/Asus K8v-X system with a maxtor SATA drive.
I needed to download and run a program called Maxblast 3 before installation. This is available from the Asus site.
After running Maxblast 3, Mandrake identified the drive and the installation went perfectly.
I then updated Mandrake using the Official pacages update mirror.
all the best,
Fergal

Yes with some boards, you must use the 10 or 10.1 amd64 version 10.1 would not work at all for me on trying to make a new machine with the cheaper ASrock board and a new sata only drive.

I have sata only and Gigabyte board that worked with 10.0 amd 64 OK,

but making a new machine with the asrock board had no joy with mandrake 10.1 or 10.0 amd64. (haven't got the 10.1 version yet for the amd64).

I solved the problem with SuSE9.1 which was the only distro that worked without a hitch on the ASrock amd64 board and new sata drive.

The SuSE9.1 discs (5) covers both 32 and 64 bit machines and is far cheaper than the price mandrake charges for there amd64 version.

I should have said that I installed the i386 version of 10.1
I'm currently installing Gentoo which should give me a full native 64 bit O/S

Hi, I have a GA-K8NS Pro with SATA and 10.1 AMD64 too

The install won't work with the SATA drive on the NForce IDE connectors, since the install kernel doesn't support them. Move the SATA drive over to the Silicon Graphics RAID IDE connectors, activate them within BIOS if they aren't already, and Mandrake will then install fine.
