Mandrake 10.1 CE Logon Selection screen will not appear
Hello,
I am fairly new to Linux and began using Mandrake 10.0 Official several months ago. When 10.1 CE went public I got the ISOs and installed it over 10.0 Official (Update). Everything went fine, but after Linux loads and brings me to KDE the Log on Selection does not appear. I checked and the PC has not frozen, the busy LED is not blinking either so everything has loaded. But with no logon screen I could not get into my desktop. From a little trial and error I noticed that this error occurs whenever I tell Mandrake to not automatically log me in. So there seems to be a problem with that file or something is preventing that dialog from appearing on screen.
I have so far tried these:
-Press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace on the logon screen - the screen blinks the logon background gets reloaded but still no logon selection dialog.
-Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 - brings me out of the graphical login and presents me with commandline local host login. I can login from here using my account and root account but typing startx after logging in does not bring me into my desktop, instead I get an error to the effect that an instance of x is already loaded. I press Ctrl+Alt+F7 and I get back to the logon screen (and not to my desktop even I have already logged in through the command line).
-I have also done a clean install of 10.1 CE (formated my Mandrake partition) but still the same thing no log on selection once I turn off the auto log on feature.
- I have also done a clean install of 10.0 official, turned off auto log on then upgraded to 10.1 CE.
Does anybody have any idea what else I can check to solve this problem?
