Mandrake 10.1 - Cannot connect in GAIM

I simply cannot get GAIM to connect to any servers (AOL/YM/MSN) My internet connectton is fine. I am posting using Mandrake 10.1, but I cannot get GAIM to connect. Any suggestions?

are u behind a proxy/firewall?

Yes.... a router, but my linux fw is off. GAIM works fine through the router on (ahem) XP.
