Mandrake 10.1 and SATA drives

Does Mandrake 10.1 Official support the SATA drives or should I stick to IDE?

That's a function of the kernel used by mdk10.1 and the sata controller on your motherboard. IIRC most of the common sata controllers were pretty well supported in 10.1. I know the intel ICH* sata controllers worked in 10.1 and I believe the promise sata controllers were well supported as well.

OK kool I will be using the VIA controller - If I set the SATA drive on window$ (for gaming) will Linux see it?

I'm not sure about via's sata controller and 10.1. If you can get LE2005(mdk10.2) or wait a few weeks when mandriva 2006 will be released for public download, you will have a much better chance of success.
If you already have the 10.1 cds, it's very easy to test the sata support. Just start the install and see if the sata drive is picked up by the install program. If it isn't, just reboot and get LE2005 or wait for 2006.
