Mandrake 10.0 Installation hang

Hello,

i am trying to install mandrake 10.0 on as a dual boot on a partition with windows Xp pro, the problem comes on installation just after the licence agreement, the installer trys to go the next screen and it hangs.

The hard disk is a ntfs partition for xp and a fat32 partiton for linux (on the same hard drive) formated inside windows.

the specs of the compter are
Amd64 3200+
1gb kingston pc3200 ram
Western digital 160gb SATA hard drive
Nivida fx5900 graphics card
lite-on DVD Rom
lite-on 16x DVD-RW
Standard floppy drive

Anybody know a reason why its hanging, could it be the partion or the fact that its a 32 bit os on a 64bit chip?

thanks

Same problem here

I have virtually the same hardware you do. Mine hangs with a message about /dev/sda1, then firewire probing. The message really makes no sense. Your drive is the same as mine also.

I disabled all internal periphrals and still get the same problem.

Suse Linux works extremely well on the same box, as does Slackware.

For the most part, Distro's are just combinations of virtually the same stuff. Once you know the command line programs, it doesn't matter as much which you use. Since I have been learning them, it is making life much easier!!
