Mandrake 10.0 freezes with any USB device

*nix noob:

whenever I pug in any USB device (wacom tablet, scanjet scanner, Scandisk mem-stick...) mandrake freezes and I am forced to reboot. removing the USB device has no effect.

while installing I had to remove all USB devices or the install precess would hang before it scanned for USB devices (I left it there during work, over eight hours, so i'm guessing it wasn't just slow)

I had "feather linux" installed before I moved to mandrake and the devices were working fine.

help anyone?

I'm having a similar problem except my laptop running Mandrake doesn't freeze up. My current problem has to do with the mouse. For some odd reason the optical usb mouse is not working. I'm running Mandrake 10 with the 2.4 kernel. I've been reading that the usb problem is fixed for the 2.6 kernel. Anyway, since you managed to fix the problem for you computer, could you share what is it that you did to get it working?

My problem was as follows:

Installed Linux mandrake 10 with no problems, my USB HUB was all working fine, HP printer correctly recognised.
When booting into linux, all checklists were OK, even the USB ones, but after the USBs were checked OK, all my USB ports got disabled, usb hub swithched off too..

Found this solution, decided to try it out...and it worked.

So whats this legacy support really?
How will it affect usb in windows ?

Thanx.
