Mandrake's base

Did Mandrake ever switch to being Debian-based? I heard that it was going to at some point.

It was just a rumour that was denied by the Mandriva devs.

That's too bad, because for some reason, I like Debian-based distributions the best. Possibly because I've had the best luck with Xandros and Knoppix; also possibly because I like distros that fit on one disc, and Xandros, Knoppix and MEPIS (and possibly others) do.

If you like the way dpkg works, try synaptic

Helps to find and replace broken installs of packages too.

Deps include,

synaptic-0.57.2-1mdk.i586.rpm

libapt-pkg0-0.5.15cnc6-10mdk.i586.rpm

dpkg-1.10.21-1mdk.i586.rpm

apt-common-0.5.15cnc6-10mdk.i586.rpm

apt-0.5.15cnc6-10mdk.i586.rpm

This will work in parallel with mdk's installer.

Though I do remember some trouble finding the right packages,

I think some had to be installed with "nodeps" and "force"

Any good advice will be in the form of, "DON'T DO IT", but it worked for me!
