Unhappy Man how do I install programs? The never work! dependencies :(


Can someone tell me why nothing ever installs for me? I try to install something and it always say blah is needed.. install aborted ... for once is there anything i can install without needing something

Yeah, it kind of sucks that you need all those things. however, as you get more of those depencies, you'll start to build a collection and you won't have to find so many out there.
If you have Mandrake, it may already be included in your CD's that you installed with. You can just install things via the control center and Mandrake does everything for you practically.

for dealing with dependencies there is urpmi - the thing that makes mandrake great. Check out this link:

Go to the url: http://plf.zarb.org/ on that page look for easy urpmi and follow the instructions. Once setup correctly the decencies become a thing of the past. I've got mine setup and IMHO this makes installing anything a breaze. Also if you are going to install a new program you don't need to download it. Just do in a shell in root urpmi (ftp or http path to file) urpmi will dl, figure its decencies and dl them and install them.
