"make xconfig" ---> needs QT; which???
Hallo,
I have just installed mandrake 10.1 community. I need to recompile the kernel to let my speedtouch adsl modem works.
The problem is that if I want to use the grphical interface for recompiling the kernel (make xconfig), system tells me I need QT installed before.
Now.... QT are not presents on 10.1 community Cd's..... which one exactly should I install and where to get them??? qt-devel? qt? qt-common? libqt-devel????? I tried to find everywhere those rpm, without any success.
Could anyone of You please help me?
(please don't answer "use make menuconfig instead"

I think you need the libqt3-dev package for sure. Not sure about any other packages.
However, I can tell you where you can get the packages if they're not on your supplied CDs.
Go to : http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/
This is the easyurpmi configurator. Set up your sources for 10.1 community and use the Mandrake Control Center to identify and install your required packages.
I've just written this and I see that this is all due to the fact that your modem isn't working....
Any chance of plugging a standard dial-up modem to your machine until you get the speedtouch going?

Thank You very much Swampi,
no way to use another modem, the only thing I could try would be to share the internet connection from my notebook but that wouldn't be so easy I'd bet.
By the way I found in some ftp:
libqt3-3.2.3-17mdk.i586.rpm
libqt3-devel-3.2.3-17mdk.i586.rpm
only that (and this really sounds strange to me) system say libqt3-3.2.3-17mdk.i586.rpm are yet installed on my system! (by who??, that's not true for sure!)
So, could You please try to give me a link to the right package I should install?
btw, by the hours I passed looking for any solutions on google...... yesterday I saw easyurpmi and I put it in my preferred lynks, I used for about 1 year the marvellous apt-get by Debian, and really miss something like that. But first I need my speedtouch works!
thanks again

you don't need qt to run that... try "make gconfig" or "make menuconfig" for alternative ui's

Saucy...
As a matter of paranoia, can you check that Qt is actually installed on your system.
Easiest way, I guess, would be to use Control Center > Software Management > Remove
search for qt
I find that I have libqt3, libqt3-devel, qt3-common, qt3-example
Doubt that the example is the required package, but just verify that you get these listed.
Also, do you get any error message that may be of use when you type "make xconfig" into a terminal window?
If they don't exist and you're still getting trouble from urpmi in installing them, try obtaining the packages off the net
(Use easyurpmi to identify where a suitable mirror is, then use the addresses from there to browse the correct archives in a web browser & download them manually)
As root, put these .rpms in /var/cache/urpmi/rpms
Now you can either try installing them using urpmi, or if that fails, try manually using rpm:
rpm -Uvh package.rpm
for each package.
Just a suggestion.
