Mail sync on simple LAN

I have a 3 PC LAN running -

0 - Internet connection MDK Linux LE2005
1 - LAN connection Linux MDK 9.2
2 - LAN conection Windows XP

With all three machines capable of internet connection (shared through PC0) I can now pick my mail up at any of them. But what I would really like is to have all the inboxes synchronised and containing the same mail.

Unfortunately with the current set-up, downloading mail into one box means it is then not accessible by the others.

I am using Kmail on the Linux boxes and Outlook Express on the Windows box. Do I need to run some sort of a mail server to achieve this or is it possible to share the mail boxes between machines?

If I'm understanding you correctly, you want to mirror your mail on all three boxes? I'm not sure I'd do that, but if you wanted you could simply use rsync to keep all three mirrored. I'd probably use fetchmail on the one box, and set up imap on it so that I could access the mail internally.

Now you've raised the issue, I'm begining to wonder if I really do want 3 copies of my mail on differnet machines !!! I can see some safety advantages but it does seem a bit extravegant and unwieldy. I will have to ponder it some more.
