Question madrake/redhat install

hey first time posting - sorry if this question has already been asked. I have a Memorex 16x DVD-rom drive. It works perfectly in xp and now I want to install mandrake on another HD. When I enter the install, I choose my language, keyboard, etc, and then it asks me where I want to install from. I select CDrom drive and it says cdrom drive not found. Then thinking its a mandrake thing, I boot from my redhat 8 install and I get the same exact thing. It doesn't detect my USB cd-rw either. Anything I can do?

What version of mandrake are you running? (I used to have RH 9, but I think 8.0 is different.)
