If you are having trouble using the command line md5sum calculator I pointed you to, you may get better results with this GUI-centric md5sum checker. This one is designed for those who have little or no experience using the command line.

Thanks for all your help here guys, you have all been very kind and helpful. Running os X, i say to hell with Safari, it's stuffed. The first time i downloaded Mandriva, it was the direct iso through safari web browser. The download came up with an error after 3.1 gb complete, after that i tried the bit torent, it downloaded but then when i tried installing it, the problem this page orriginally adresses was caused. I finally gave the direct download another go it came up with an error at 2.8 gb complete (I think it's important to point out that i use prepaid usb internet which has a stupid charge rate so all these unsuccesful downloads being so larg have cost me money, and take about 12 or more hours each). I downloaded os x's version of Firefox, and attempted to download it again and it was succesful, and now to my delight, Mandriva is installed in parallels desktop working. (-:
morel of the story, Firefox rules, yes even on Mac.
