Looking for network "connect" function in MDK10 Comm. GUI.

Blazingly simple question.
Where is the network connect function in the Mandrake 10 Comm menu?
My network is configured fine, and it works. However, the only way I've found to activate it is from "mcc" then "network" then "connection monitor". And in the connection monitor there is a "connect" button.

Is there a more obvious way to activate a connection?

If you are using a dial up connection, in a terminal window do 'ifup ppp1' to start the connection
Do 'ifdown ppp1' to stop the connection
