Hello good ppl,
I installed mdrk linux 10.1 yesterday, and everything went fine with the installation process, no errors at all [the only thing that bothered me was that it didn't detect my printer, but that’s a minor problem I'll solve later].
After the installation, I booted it through lilo bootloader, and so the blue screen appeared, that vividly reminded me of win deathscreen, and that was it. Beside a nice mouse pointer, that responded to mouse movements, and a "mandrakelinux" starry sign in the bottom right corner of the screen there was noting there. The text console works fine though. I tried:
-init 3 then init 5
-deleted .0X-lock file
-chkconfig --add dm [just in case]
Well, it all didn't work, I still get the everblue half-dead screen and no login window T_T

I found some errors in kdm.log file, maybe they'll clear things up a bit:

seems to me glx 3d layering is bombing on you. try commenting out the glx 3d line in your xorg.conf file. look for the following section & comment it out as follows (in red).......
Code:
Section "Module"
Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension
Load "v4l" # Video for Linux
Load "extmod"
Load "type1"
Load "freetype"
#Load "glx" # 3D layer
EndSection
if you're not sure how to do that, see the Nvidia link in my nick & read the part about editing xfree/xorg.
EDIT: i also see you have an Nvidia card. did you install the drivers correctly? again, refer tot the link in my sig for info.
please post back.

Well, I'm having some major w2k problems again T_T. Ever since I installed sp4, my w2k is everything but stable... just an hour ago it crashed and guess what - registry file got screwd up, and it coudn't recover it from backup... good thing I had a backup from 2 months ago... but taht's off-topic....
As to my gfx card - it's GeForce FX 5700LE. As I said, I just installed mandrake, so I haven't installed any official nvidia drivers yet, I simply chose during the install that I have nvidia chipset based gfx card, thats all.
I'll try commenting out the glx 3d line in xorg.conf amd see if it does any good. Also, I could install official nvidia drivers if you think taht might help [since I have to do that anyway]. Perhaps I sould try to install the drivers first, and then edid xorg.conf if there is no change...
But first I must get some w2k issues out of the way, since 2months old reg files are indeed old.... GRRRRR
Hmmm... strange things keep happening tome, or so it seems....
I was *trying* to install nvidia drivers, but it didn't want to, since it didn't see ma kernel source [or maybe i forgot to install it]. So I went ahead and inserted 3d CD and done rpm -i on sth that looked like kernel rpm file ^_^ . No I received quite a different msg from nvidia rpm - it said that it can't compile it. Well, I used urpmq kernel to see what other rpms are available to me, and did urpmi on package called kernel-smp-2.6.8.1.10mdk. it installed it, but nvidia drivers still wouldn't work. So, beaten, I typed in init 5 and guess what happened - logon window appeared after x loaded up. wow. As i'm writing it I am in X environment now. But I still need to install those nvidia drivers. Any idea ho can I do that?
And one more question, unrelated - is there a file explorer I can install that would display [like win explorer] a file tree and files [in two side-by-side windows]?
Ha, ha - guess what just happened - I was browsing through some images. to find one suitable for my second desktop, when mandrake suddenly crashed with absolutely no error message. The smudged colors on the screen led me to a conclusion that that probably was that driver problem. So please, please help me install those nvidia drivers. Here's the what I get when I try to install them [this attempt was with --add-this-kernel]:

Bah, I got dose drivers to install. For all people having problems with nvidia drivers 61.11 and mandrake 10.1 try this link: TRY IT
Anyway, I still have some questions:
-is there a file manager for x environment that can show a file tree and files [like win explorer did]
-how can I change font/color/size of the text under the icons on desktop? I searched through kdm look'n'feel but couldn't find it
I guess nobody cares about this thread any more, but I still do ^_^
Ever since I installed nvidia drivers the consoles stopped working... well, not exacly - its just thsat the screen resoluton in consol mode seems to be 10X10 or so, and you can bearly distigusish some letters [the're huge, and the whole screen is covered in white strips, and it is blinking]. Any idea ho can fix that?
