Arrow Linux modem drivers want load??And wine?


Hi im the biggest newbie yet just install mandrake 10 with no problem at all all went fine then i started to install all the drivers etc for my hardware but didnt need to its did it all for me but the modem so i got the lastest driver for my modem and i can figer out how to install it ive clicked the exe or what ever its called in linux and it just want load I dont know what to do, im all so have problems with wine i used the search thing in mandrake to locat it and installed it off the disk but cant figure out were it is or any thing i found something called eluminators and it had wine programs in it but they will not load they just stop loading and slow down the whole pc, I can only talk to you because i did a daul boot and im running windows at the moment but when someone helps me with this i can go back to linux and hopefully make the change from windows to linux which will be a happy day ive givin heaps of money to bill gates pockets.
Thanks for your help I hope to uninstall windows for good one day.

If it's an internal then you should ensure it is an active modem (hardware modem) It must use the AT command set.

You can test it all using the kppp under the terminal, if you can't get OK ditch it for a proper modem.

The easiest solution for all distro's of Linux are external modems.

Man 10 still does not properly detect the Winmodems so don't believe MCC. Use Kppp and talk to it. if you coexist with Windoze then checking the configuration of the modem especially the com port defined helps you set up under Linux.

The absolute test though is talking Hayes language AT, ATI etc to the modem through the terminal. If you can get to talk this way then Man's mcc will see it as a modem and configuration that way isn't a problem.

But why haven't you broadband?

There is a shop in my countrie that sells linuxs modems should i save some trouble and just buy one??? I need to get the net going if i ever hope to change to linux because then i can ask questions and download software for linux inside linux instead of having to boot windows, This might not mean anything but everything that ive loaded on after the install of mandrake doesnt boot what am i doing wroung?How do i know if wine was install properly??

Tryed KPPP

O.K. did kppp and windows came and pressed ok and said /dev/modem or something not found so i went to configer and changed it to slot 3 and it didnt dail but went though some sort of check and then said modem busy but how could it be i cant connect to the internet so i tryed it on all the slotye etc and it was the same thing /xx/xx not found there was two that came up with the modem busy thing, whats wround what should i do.

Ok the worlds biggests newbie made his biggest discovery eva, I think the kernal version in mandrake 10 in differnt then the one my driver is useing because i found a read me file and it told me to go to root etc and i did it all but when it came to make 536 and make install it said "unsurrported kernal version" my modems website doesnt have a driver for the new mandrake 10 yet i will request one and hopefully fix my problem, If you know whats really wrong and ive got it all wrong then please tell my i can send you a copy of the driver if it helps.
