Linux Mandrake 9.2 misses my monitor parameters (?)

Hello! I have recently decided to make another attempt to get my Mandrake work properly - and actually it does- except for my monitor. I don't know how to setup my display to 800x600 at 75Hz refresh rate, because it's the most recommended in my case and unfortunately Linux loaded 60 Hz by default and there is no way I'm now able to change it. Of course I made it work at 74 Hz (the only case that my eyes can withstand) provided my monitor works at 1280x1024 and it actually refuses to work in these conditions for a long time. Can you tell me something about how I can set the parameters I need manually..? I'd be very thankful for your opinions and advices..

you have to edit your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 (section "monitor") and add a modeline.
here are some useful tools on the net to generate the proper modeline :

http://xtiming.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/xtiming.pl
http://koala.ilog.fr/cgi-bin/nph-colas-modelines

you'll need your monitor's specs.
