Mandriva 2007 Install

I'm very new to Linux and hoping to install the Mandriva 2007 distro that came Linux magazine (Issue 72) on my IBM T22 laptop. I attempted using a boot disk but failed because the dvd was connected to the usb port.

I have partitioned a part of the hard disk ready for the install. Can someone give me some steps to follow to do a hard disk install.
