Linux 9.1 Partitioning Error

While Installing Linux Mandrake 9.1 I received the follwing error during the partitioning phase of the install:

"I can't find any room for installing."

All it lets me do after that is hit OK. And it does not go any further. Any ideas. I downloaded another ISO and burned it to another CD, but still the same error. I have even tried a diferent HD. I am trying to install it on a IBM ThinkPad T21. I have installed it before on a different T-21 without any issues...?

Actually, I have never had any issus with installation since using Mandrake 7.0...so this is very strange for me...

you're planning a dual boot?
you should run disk defragmenter under windows before mdk installation.

No Dual Booting

Windows XP was on the HD but I deleted everything on it. It is empty. I am going to only run 1 OS - Linux.

the problem is - xp is ntfs formatted...
try turning on your computer without mdk cd - where does it get you? is there anything like DOS? if yes do the formatting - format it to FAT32 and then run installation cd

Nice try...but

The drive is already at FAT32...any other ideas?

I am going to try to pull down another ISO from another mirror...at this point it's the only thing i can think of.

If anyone knows specifically why that error ("I can't find any room for installing.") comes up, it would be most helpful. I checked the hardware and it supports that particlar hard drive, and it is at FAT32...so I am completely lost. NEVER had an install problem is any distro of Linux...this 9.1 has gotten me quite agitated...

Thanks again for any help everybody.

It much appreciated,

Alex

Well

I am at the end of my rope...2 more hours on this thing and it's on to a Microsoft OS...

Anyway, I pulled down another disc one from another mirror site, and I will see if this fixes the issue - I don't think that it will...

I have made sure there are no partitions and I formatted the drive to FAT...not sure what else to try...

Thanks again,

Alex

Just do the Redhat thing ~ It has an ugly logo, they rip apart KDE to make it work all crappy like, but it'll conquer any hard drive issues you have.
