Question Linksys WUSB11 v2.6 freezing system at boot

I am using a Linksys WUSB11 USB wireless 802.11b network adapter to connect to the internet. All usb ports are working fine and other usb products will work. The problem is that this network adaptor causes Mandrake 9.2 to freeze while booting and it will freeze the computer if the adapter is hot-plugged. Is this a driver issue? The adapter works on another computer just fine using Mandrake 9.2. The PC has a PII 400 and 256MB RAM, while the PC that the adapter works on is an Athlon XP 2400+ 2.0GHz and 512MB DDR. Would you say the problem is in the PC or the adapter? Why would it cause the PC to freeze when it is plugged in? Thanks!

Does the freezing computer support USB2?
Does the network adapter require USB2?
Is the freezing computer configured correctly for the device [same as the working one]?
These are the first questions I would try to answer to get to a reao;ution

Both computers had MDK 9.2 installed on them one right after the other. The ONLY difference is that the AMD 2.0GHz PC is running the ATI based kernel and the freezing PC is running the base install kernel. As far as the USB configuration, the freezing PC has had the adapter working in Win 98, but the adapter crapped out a few days ago and has not worked in Win since. That is why MDK was installed. Because it worked on the AMD PC just fine. So why do I not just use the AMD PC? Well, the adapter belongs to my roommate and it is his PC that is freezing. He pretty much hates his computer, but it's all he has right now. I might try a different version of MDK on his computer, but I would like to see if there is a solution first. Thanks for helping.
