LILO question
In my LILO list, I have:
linux
linux-nonfb
linux-enterprise
263-4
failsafe
I've figured out that 'linux' boots with the 2.4 kernel, and that 'linux-enterprise' and '263-4' boot with the 2.6 kernel. I'm not sure about the 'linux-nonfb' option. Can anybody tell me more about these options, and should I really have two kernel boot options? And what exactly does 'failsafe' do? Load only basic drivers? And is there a way to go back in and edit the options listed by LILO? I probably won't ever use half of them, but I'm open to advice/suggestions/comments. Thanks.

nonfb means framebuffer is disabled (ie the Mandrake star on bootup). You may not want to use this while troubleshooting. The 'failsafe' is supposed to let you boot if the regular doesn't boot properly. I think it just doesn't load the programs it normally would. To edit the lilo menu, you edit the /etc/lilo.conf file. There are paragrphs for each entry. You can just remove them with a text editor if you want. You need to run the 'lilo' command to apply changes.

Graphical boot
Can anyone tell me how to disable the graphical boot in Mandrake 10.0 CE? I have disabled it in the configurations window, but when I go back, it is enabled again. I have to press esc every time to have the system boot with the system checklist - and I much prefer it, so I can see if anything has gone wrong!

Take a look at the 'install=' line in /etc/lilo.conf. Also see the 'man lilo.conf'
