libstdc++.so.6

Hello,
Today I thought I would attempt to install wine on my Mandrake 9.1
during installation I got an error message saying conflict detected, libstdc++.so.6 is needed by wineblahversionnumberblah.

Probably a simple question thats been answered before, but google, nor the search function on this forum seemed to help me.

You should ALWAYS install packages via URPMI and not tarballs.

See my sig for more information...

Yes it gets stuff off the net.

However you are already finding tarballs off the net, so if you can do this, you can also use URPMI.

opjose, no. I do not have internet access on mandrake. It just doesnt seem to work with my modem. Thus I have windows to download what I want, then put in a fat partition to take it over.

run rpmdrake and search for "libstd"

You will see a "libstdc++6-3.4.1-4mdk"

Install that. I believe it's what you're looking for. If I'm wrong, I apologize.

caladbolg, no nothing shows up.
But it doesn't matter now, i took a friends advice of using the sources instead of the rpms for wine.

And what is to prevent you from dumping files from one of the URPMI repositories (they are nothing but public FTP sites after all) and doing the same thing you do now?

The library is apt to show up again as quite a few people have had a problem looking for it.
Its part of libstd2.10-2.96
which can be found here
http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/se...Mandrake&arch=
This has the libstdc++ library that you are looking for. I just had to install it today when I was loading the driver for my lexmark printer. I found it on the 4th install
CD of 10.1.

There is a package called "compatibility" something.

It installs libraries and links to permit compatibility with applications compiled for prior versions of Linux.

I believe it addresses all of this as I've never have had any such issue, and I usually install the compatibility libs.

If you use Linux-Mandrake 9.1, you may wish to update to a newer version since 9.1 is no longer supported. Many significant improvements have been made since that release. Just a thought ...
